WHAT AFFECTS THE PRICE

Why prices vary from car to car

Size of the damageA scuff the size of a coin costs less than one across the whole corner.
How deep it goesClear-coat marks can be polished; damage through to primer or metal needs filling and painting.
Where it isEdges, swage lines and plastic bumpers take more shaping than a flat, open panel.
Your paintSolid colours are simplest. Pearl, metallics and 3 stage colours take more time and material to match.
How many panelsEach extra panel adds to the job. We focus on 1–2 panels per visit, 3 at most, to keep turnaround quick.
Parts and sensorsParking sensors, trims and clips may need removing and refitting.
WHY PEARL COLOURS COST MORE

Three-stage pearl paints

Most vehicles use a two-stage paint: a colour coat, then clear. Many pearl colours, especially pearl whites, are three-stage paints. That means three separate layers to spray, and much more work to match.

Primer and panel
1Ground coat
2Pearl mid coat
3Clear coat
1
Ground coatThe base colour goes on first. It sets the colour underneath the pearl and has to be exactly right, or everything on top of it will be off.
2
Pearl mid coatA see-through pearl layer is sprayed over the ground coat. The number of coats changes the shade, so it has to match the original car exactly.
3
Clear coatFinally, lacquer protects the colour and gives the deep gloss. Only then can the colour be judged properly.
How we match a three-stage colour
STEP 1Find the paint codeWe check the code on the car so we start from the right formula.
STEP 2Spray test cardsWe spray the ground coat, then pearl coats in steps on test cards (“let-down” cards), and clear them.
STEP 3Compare in daylightWe hold the cards against your car to find exactly how many pearl coats match.
STEP 4Blend into the panels around itWe fade the new colour into the neighbouring panels so there’s no visible line.
Because of the extra coats, test cards and blending, three-stage pearl repairs take longer and use more material, so they cost more than solid or metallic colours. We’ll always tell you up front if your car has one.

PRICING QUESTIONS

Good to know

See all FAQs →
Why can’t you give an exact price without photos?
Two scuffs can look alike in words but need very different work. Photos let us see the size, depth and paint, so the price we give is the price you pay.
Do you charge for a quote?
No. Quotes are always free and there’s no obligation.
Is there a discount for more than one panel?
Yes. Our multi-panel discount applies when 2 or more panels are repaired in the same visit, so it works out cheaper per panel.
Are your prices cheaper than a main dealer?
Yes. We’re usually cheaper than a main dealer, with the same quality of finish. Every repair is matched to your paint code and covered by our lifetime paint warranty.
